• Bongsan Talchum 봉산탈춤

This video shows many of the activities of a Bongsan Talchum class and includes videos from performances of the Bongsan Talchum preservation association. The class itself is being taught by the preservation association isuja (3rd ranked) member Kim Eunju, who has been practicing the art for more than twenty years. The classroom locations are both in the 무형문화전수회관 Intangible Culture Training Center in Seoul, where Bongsan Talchum's offices are located.

The video shows the basic motions, followed by the solo dances of the dark faced monks 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 (1 is rarely danced and rarely taught), the combined (hapdong) dance of all 8 monks, and finally a performance of the novice monks dance (사상좌춤).

The video was prepared primarily for the use of students of Bongsan Talchum who may want a visual reference to use at home when they are learning the dance.

Finally, although the costumed performers are professionals, the students who are not costumed are still learners and please do not think that they have carried out each section without any mistakes. They are trying their hardest and learning more and more every day!
