Arirang: Echo of a Millennium at the Powerhouse Museum

The Powerhouse Museum presented Arirang: Echo of a Millennium, a special performance from Korea in association with the Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea, on Saturday 29th October 2011 as part of public programs coinciding with the Spirit of jang-in exhibition (for more info visit http://www.powerhousemuseum.com/jangin/)

The performance was organised by the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation and supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Office, Sydney.

Content of performance :

1.Arirang 아리랑
Arirang is Korea's most beloved folk song that beautifully expresses Korean sentiment.

2.Gagok 가곡
Gagok is a genre of the Korean lyric song cycles known as sijo, which is a type of traditional Korean poetry performed in a fixed form.

3.Sanjo 산조
Sanjo is the the most representative instrumental form of Korean folk music.

4.Taepyeongmu 태평무
Taepyeongmu is a folk dance that is performed to express wishes for the great peace of the nation.

5.Pansori 판소리
Pansori is vocal and percussion music performed by a singer and drummer . It is characterized by expressive singing, stylized speech, a repertory of narratives and gesture.

6.Buchaechum 부채춤
Buchaechum is a creative dance that presents various images, such as butterflies and waves, through the movements of hand-held fans.

7.Gil Nori 길놀이
Gil Nori or street parade is a performance by a percussion music band. It was usually performed to entertain famers and lower-class people.
